U.S. Employers Create 250,000 New Jobs to Close Out 2017
U.S. EMPLOYERS ENDED 2017 with a bang as they drummed up 250,000 new jobs in December, according to a report published Thursday by the ADP Research Institute.
The latest ADP employment report represented the private sector’s strongest showing since March, as small and mid-sized businesses led the way with 94,000 and 100,000 additions, respectively.
“It’s really quite impressive. The American jobs machine remains in full swing and really contributed a lot in December,” Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s Analytics, told reporters on a conference call Thursday.
Zandi described the gains as “very broad-based” and noted that “all industries, all sectors” are comfortably chugging along – with the notable exception of the information sector, which shed 4,000 positions and has now gone six months with flat or declining payrolls.
